Fishing continues to be good even though we ended the week with unfavorable winds n a few storms. Flounder catches are pleasing anglers in sizes above 19”. The waters on the west side of the island being more productive than anywhere else. Old favorite baits of jumbo minnows or silversides paired with artificials such as Gulp on a tandem rig will put flounder in your cooler. Switching up to live bloods or bloodworm scented squid or artificials such as Gulp bloods or FishBites will bring in droves the croaker or whiting/kingfish. These panfish linger between Buoys 14 east to Buoy 11. East from that area -inshore Coastal sharks - Atlantic finetooth, duskys, juvenile hammers, occasional bigger ones in 6-8’ range the further east about 1-2 miles off the Inlet that you navigate. Live lining croaker or whiting can tease one to playing around but guarantee fight n on the deck - mackerel or cut bait such as bunker. Be sure to check for those ridges running down the back n release - they’re illegal to keep. Golden rule - know your sharks - what’s keepable and what is not. On the beach, same mix as inshore with exception of flounder. Rarely do I hear of a flounder being caught off the surf. BUT - Blackfish Banks is sizzling - flounder, triggers, Black Sea bass, spades & sheepshead. Stock up on extra rigs n sinkers (3-4 oz) cuz you’re gonna be donating out there. Make sure your rigs have some flash/spinners n small hooks for those spades cuz they love to be attracted to ‘shine’ as well as clams. Those triggers taste switch over to shrimp and, of course, flounder want Jumbo minnows n silversides paired with Gulp swimming mullet. In addition, Bloodworm scented squid is another great ‘switch-up’ bait to have. En route to the Subway Cars drop a line n forge for those huge reds that are lingering outside the breakers off Assateague Island. It truly is a fisherman’s paradise right now. Lastly- crabs. Just as popular as fishing. AND just as abundant. But - all you hardcore chicken neck crabbers need to follow suit of the commercial crabbers - the most effective bait for pulling up a lot of big meaty heavy blue crabs is good old stinky, oily CHEAP bunker. On that note-good fishing n crabbing.

June Peck, McConnellsburg, PA, still fishing - north of Queen Sound bridge (she lost her husband a year ago - two of the best flounder anglers I’ve known) n obviously doing a great job. That’s a lot of filleting there!!
