We are celebrating our 57th anniversary this year!

Enjoy some Island History – read about our humble beginnings below.

In 1959, Bob Pohlmeyer (Capt. Bob) got some dim news from his doctors. He decided to live life to the fullest & follow his dream – that being having a bait and tackle shop and renting “a few” boats. Never realizing he would be around long enough to experience “living his dream”, by 1960 – he was “up and running” with 6 wooden boats and a marsh where they were docked. Back then we were known as Capt. Bob’s Fishing Camp.

During the “unregulated” years of the 60’s and 70’s when coolers were full of 100 – 300 flounder to a boat, those 6 wooden boats were replaced with100 fiberglass boats and that small patch of marsh grew into 5+ acres of docks, piers and parking. Talk about living your dream!! Who said positive thinking doesn’t have its rewards? Regulation over the years plus anglers buying their own boats played into a difficult decision this year to discontinue with the boat rentals.. Sadly, in 1995, Capt. Bob passed away but the business is still family operated and is now known as Capt. Bob’s Marina. We pride ourselves in being one of the best information resources for navigation, fishing, crabbing, clamming or local happenings on the Island! We truly appreciate your business because without you over the past 57 years, Capt. Bob’s Marina would not be here today. The pronoun “your” is important to the crew at Capt. Bob’s. Our motto & mission (short but a commitment) is “Your vacation pleasure is our business” and at Capt. Bob’s, we work hard to make that happen for you. Regardless what your water related interest is – we will help make your vacation more enjoyable. Fishing the waters of Chincoteague, whether Inshore or Offshore, attracts anglers from New York to North Carolina. Inshore fishing produces Flounder, Kingfish/Whiting, Croaker, White Perch, Drum, Striper and Shark. Just 3 miles off the coast is a popular artificial reef, Blackfish Banks, where catches of larger Flounder, Spadefish, Tautog, Black Sea Bass, Triggerfish and Trout makes an anglers dream come true in 3 – 6 hours. Offshore ‘hot spots’ are closest to Chincoteague’s Inlet & have been a favorite for blue water anglers seeking Wahoo, Tuna, Mahi-Mahi, Cobia and various sharks. We carry everything you will need to fill your cooler – baits, tackle, ice & 89 octane fuel – ETHANOL FREE!!

At Capt. Bob’s, we share fishing information with you, telling the “hot spots” and which baits are being used. If crabbing is what makes your day, then by all means, come by and see us! We can “turn you on” to some of the best crabbing spots (or crab FREE at our crabbing area) and the crabs are meaty, too! Not the adventurous type? We can book you on a charter for fishing – inshore, offshore or wrecks as well as clamming, crabbing and nature trips. . At Capt. Bob’s Marina, we take great pride in being your vacation resource guide. We appreciate the fact that you choose to spend your vacation on our Island. Remember, your vacation pleasure is our business! Please come by and visit with us.
