Capt. Bob's Marina Chincoteague Virginia

In 1959, Bob Pohlmeyer (Capt. Bob) received some not very promising news from his doctors. He decided to live life to the fullest and follow his dream – that being working on the water, having a bait and tackle store and renting "a few" boats. Never realizing he would be around long enough to experience "living his dream", by 1960 – he was "up and running" with about 6 wooden boats and a marsh where they were docked. Initially, we were known as Capt. Bob’s Fishing Camp. During the "unregulated" years of the 60's and 70's when flounder were being landed anywhere from 100 – 300 to a boat, those 6 wooden boats were replaced with 100 fiberglass John Dory boats and that small patch of marsh grew into 5+ acres of docks, piers and parking. Talk about living your dream!! Who said positive thinking doesn't have its rewards?

Regulation over the years plus anglers buying personal boats has greatly reduced the rental fleet. Sadly, in 1995, Capt. Bob passed away but the business is still family operated and is now known as Capt. Bob’s Marina.
