The croaker fishery this year has proven to return to our waters in larger numbers than in previous years. Although not reaching the sizes that we saw in the earlier part of this decade, the increase in volume had been a welcome to many families that enjoy pulling up those tasty but boney, noisey croaking fish. Queen Sound bridge has been loaded with croaker and anglers using just about any bait can fill their coolers. The Chincoteague Channel has been a hit or miss with keeper flounder with the majority being a quarter to half inch Shorr of regulation size.

Right in front if Capt. Bob’s Marina schools of keeper trout made a showing about two days ago. Also nice size finetooth sharks being caught BY TOURIST from the piers of West Port. Whiting/kingfish near the entrance of the Assateague Channel n near Toms Cove and the Point. Nice Black Tips being caught in our waters as well. For the Shark Hunters head to Buoy 2 for nice big shark in the Pelagic category- remember to check what kind you can keep and these bad boys have got to be a minimum 54” and caught on stainless steel circle hooks. FYI just in case you’re checked by authorities. The artificial reef, Blackfish Banks, still rocking with flounder, bass but small & shark. The Little Wreck will give larger sea bass. The yellow fin bite still further north off Ocean City. The surf producing lots of croaker & smaller panfish.

Crabbing is worth the time & effort. Keepers exceeding 6-7” are filling coolers. Bunker fish out crabbing chicken necks but harder to keep on hand lines, although great for pots. There’s been a ton on huge rays that people are catching in numbers and cutting the wings for that almost scallop taste. BUT you’ve got to be strong & patient cuz skinning those wings is not an easy job. That’s a wrap for the weeks fishing report.

Note; the photo of the angler (burgundy shirt) won the yellow fin divisions of White Marlin Open & was in our tackle shop n shared his catch info - purse of $85,000’. Largest YF (he claimed ever brought in to the White Marlin Open.
