FISHING REPORT WEEK ENDING AUGUST 1, 2020

It’s the same old story - but it’s the truth!! Fishing is great & if you’re not catching fish then you need to revamp your technique. Flounder are almost jumping in the coolers in every location you go. The High School ‘honey- hole’, the inside of Toms Cove on the east side of the Point. the junkyard north of the Assateague bridge, the Fingers PLUS dropping a few lines while en route on both sides of the Mighty Queen Sound bridge, Cockle Creek, Government Cut, scattered in Four Mouths, the Subway Cars - what’s going on? I’ve never seen so many flounder being caught. Compound that with other species- the regulars - panfish- whiting, pompano & croaker on the inside and sharks, spades, triggers, sea bass, Cobia at Blackfish Banks. Sharks- every size - inside , outside- everywhere. It’s got to be the temperatures - on land and the water temp. Usually flounder don’t like warmer waters/ they didn’t get that memo this year!! LOL!! I know this report is a repeat of the last few weeks but then again - that’s a good thing. On the beach, anglers finding pretty much the same only I’ve not heard of anyone catching a flounder there. Crabbing has become almost addictive to tourists as shark hunting. We locals have always had ‘a thing’ for ‘catching, picking & swirling’. But the crabs are so abundant and the seating so limited on charters due to COVID19/social distancing that every visitor has turned to crabbing AND the payoff is worth the fun time invested. Especially since crabs cost anywhere from $150 to $295 a bushel depending upon the purview. So folks, come and play on our island after Isaisas departs- where a seafood lover is really in paradise.
