August 2017 Fishing Report

The words for August are Sharks and Subway Cars.  While the fishing for flounders inside is still steady although there are a lot of shorts, the Subway cars have been yielding limits of big flounder as well as triggers and spadefish. Also the inshore shark fishing continues to be excellent. Finetooth Sharks around the 5 foot mark have been common, as well as a variety of spinners, blacktip ans small hammerheads are being caught. As far as fishing in the surf, some keeper flounder are being caught on Gulp tipped with squid. Spot and Kingfish are also being caught on FishBites and Bloodworms. There have also been reports of puppy drum being caught in the creeks and guts around Chincoteague. The offshore bite continues to improve with reports of scattered tuna, roving schools of dolphin and a phenomenal white marlin bite at Washington Canyon.
