While it has been chilly and the wind - she’s a blowing, the fish are still biting when you can cast a line. News on the water is Speckled Trout are really making their moves in the Chincoteague Channel by the Town Pier and in the Assateague Channel at the bridge where a lot of action has been reported using a spec rig tipped with grubs. Croaker, spot and puffer fish are being caught off Toms Cove fishing pier using shrimp, scented bloods and live blood worms. Even a few small sharks are being landed as well using mackerel, bunker and finger mullet. The beach/surf is heating up with Rock and Red Drum using cut spot and clams. Crabs - well they speak for themselves - nice, heavy and sweet. Even on these windy days we have been having great catches. But no worries here, with the outlook forecasted for later this week - warmer weather is on it’s way. Upper 70’s and even a teaser 80 degree day in the mix. For us diehards- summer isn’t over yet!! And the fish sure aren’t going anywhere yet. The last three years, even after a few almost Hurricanes scares where we did get some strong perimeter winds, the flounder were being caught even in November!! So let the sea bed settle down tomorrow cuz after these past few days of 25-30MPH winds you need to let that sea weed and sludge settle or that’s all you’re gonna be pulling up if you forge out to fish. Needless to say- no offshore action this past week.
