Week ending 6/16/19
Beautiful days but still a tad too windy for pretty blue waters. The dark gray waters means Winds making it hard drifting for flounder n much time spent cleaning your hooks. Some tenacious anglers did pull up a few keeper flounder in the 19 - 22” range in the Chincoteague Channel. With the island as a barrier from those NW 20-30MPH winds, some found the Assateague Channel more appealing for fishing although the best bite seems to be in the western waters. A few kingfish, croaker n inshore sharks but with the winds of the past week, fishing is more like work than pleasure. With the arrival of higher temperatures, the fishing should really take off, especially Blackfish Banks Reef, aka Subway cars/ Box cars.. But all these breezy days sure did not slow up crabbing. This year is totally amazing when it comes to crabbing - large numbers being caught and huge size crabs. Pray for the winds to calm down n these storms associated with high daytime temperatures to move out. The fish are here - pulling em up is the challenge.
