Fishing Report for week ending 5/26/19:

Fishing has really improved in the last week. Flounder especially with the most action taking place in the Chincoteague Channel between Buoys 17 north pass Daisey’s Dockside. Also the Assateague Channel has come alive again particularly in front of Memorial Park and Tom’s Cove Campground. The size range has been between 17.5 up to 22”, with most popular baits being live Minnows toppers with GULP swimming mullet or GULP baby crabs. Switch up baits include smelt, shiners, shrimp and, many old timers still clinging to the tried and true Chincoteague sandwich of squid and Minnows. Also arriving is a stronger showing of kingfish/whiting mostly around Buoys 14 thru Buoy 11, using FishBites bloods, bloodworm scented squid or the real McCoy - actual live bloodworms. I heard the croaker are making an appearance today although not anywhere near full force. Bluefish near the Inlet as well as a few hake. Small stripper have been caught and cried about since they were released. The wrecks have been producing Black Sea Bass although Blackfish Banks has been a challenge to keep the baits down due to winds and rough seas. Reports are the fish are there , just need right conditions. Crabbing still proves to be phenomenal with most in the 6-8” range. If you have a boat, forge around the legal clamming grounds and get yourself some nice clams in the top neck n cherry stone size range. Now that’s s good week dispute a few extreme baby gale winds.
